Let’s face it, accommodations make up one of the biggest expenses of your trip to Rome. And while you’re probably dreaming of a 5-star luxury stay at the St. Regis, you might not have the budget, or desire, to spend at least $800 to $1,200 USD a night for the most basic room in the dead of January. Luckily staying in style doesn’t have to break the bank. We’ve rounded up the most affordable boutique hotels in Rome to help you plan a Roman holiday with enough room in your budget to eat the best cacio & pepe in town and enjoy a pie of gourmet Roman pizza.

NERVA BOUTIQUE HOTEL
Nerva Boutique Hotel is a 3-star located in the hipster, bohemian neighbourhood of Monti. The decor is modern yet classy. A black and white houndstooth palette accented by colorful artwork. For Rome’s standards the location to price ratio is almost unbeatable when it comes to many other boutique hotels in Rome. The Colosseum and the Roman Forum are just a five-minute walk away, as is the Colosseo stop on metro line B. You’ll get easy access to the rest of the eternal city’s bucket list sites and be able to spend more time enjoying your vacation than worrying about all the logistics.
Pro-tip: If you need more space to spread out we suggest upgrading to one of the superior rooms.

THE FIFTEEN KEYS
The Fifteen Keys is another one of the boutique hotels in Rome that’s conveniently located in Monti’s hip rhione. Converted from a 5-storey townhouse to 4-star boutique hotel in 2015, it’s locally owned and offers 15 individually designed rooms. Each room is furnished with modern and minimalistic decor that has a touch of 1950’s flair. Situated on a secluded street, it seeks to offer a homey feel. On Sundays, you can sleep in and enjoy breakfast until 11 and in the summer you enjoy the tranquility of the courtyard for your first meal of the day. You can have this all starting around $30 USD more a night (depending on the exchange rate, time of year and if any special events are happening in town) than the Nerva Boutique Hotel depending on the time of year and current exchange rate). For those with a flexible budget the upgrade from 3-star to 4-star is worth the added comforts of home.
